And they don’t work because writing a script that actually works is difficult.

And then suddenly you run out of things to write about.

Why is there nowhere else to go?

Why is it so short?

Where is the rest of the story?

You might even ask yourself “What do I do now?”

The whole goal of my “Screenplay Story Audit” is to do 1 thing: help you become unstuck and clear about what you need to do next.

In order for that to happen you need 2 things:

Firstly, a fundamental understanding of the art and science of screenwriting.

Without understanding the fundamentals, you’re leaving the success of your story up to chance, a very slim one at that.

I’ve spent over 2 decades teaching screenwriting at various schools such as the Drexel University, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, East Carolina University & Program Director of the Digital Cinema Arts Program at Glendale Community College (AZ) read over and advised 1,000s of students on their scripts and even had 5 of my own screenplays made into feature films.

So I know a thing or two about this.

The second element - perspective is also very important. It’s hard to get perspective on a story you’re writing because you’re in it.

You can’t see the big picture when you’re stuck in the details.

You can’t read the label because you’re inside the bottle.

You can’t see the forest for the trees.

You get the point.

So on this call we will do the following:

You tell me about your story.
I might ask you some clarifying questions.
Then I will help you understand from a bird’s eye view what works and what doesn’t work about your story.

We won’t be getting into the minutiae, looking at individual lines of the dialogue or other details.

We are talking about broad strokes and understanding structurally, does this work?

Because if it doesn’t work structurally, it doesn't matter what the minutiae is.

Your story will collapse under its own weight.
